Q. What brings you joy?
A.  I enjoy meeting with my daughter each weekend for brunch.  I also have the pleasure of being the Godmother to 16 children, ages 6 -32.  The 6-year-old is a Spiderman fan and I recently delivered him the Spidey bath towel and blanket that Spiderman left at my house for him.

Q. How long have you worked at the Court?
A.  All of my adult life.  I've been here since I was 21-years-old.

Q. What do you like most about your job?
A.  I like completing the court call dockets the day of the hearing so families can have their court orders as soon as possible.  I worked at the Customer Service Window, so I am very sensitive to the fact that people want and need these as soon as possible.

Q. What's most challenging about your job?
A.  Actually completing the court call dockets on the same day as the hearing is the biggest challenge as well.

Q. Where would you like to be at this moment?
A.  I would love to be in Hawaii.

Q. Who is your favorite superhero?
A.  My favorite superhero is Batman.  Batman has no special powers.  He cares about people and uses his normal/natural abilities to hep others.

Q. Name some of your favorite places:
A.  My favorite places are Royal Oak, MI; Charlotte, NC; and, Albuquerque, NM.

Q. What's your favorite movie?
A.  My favorite movie is The Godfather and the sequels.

Q. Are you a lifelong Detroiter?
A.  I attended Pershing High School, the College for Creative Studies, and Wayne State University.

Q. If you did not work at Third Circuit Court, what type of work would you like to do?
A. If I did not work for the Court, I would have pursued a career as commercial artist.  I use these skills to help for family events.  I also create art and write poetry.

Q. How will you spend the Thanksgiving holiday?
A.  I plan on gathering with the family for a meal.

Q. What is one thing most people do not know about you?
A.  I am an avid Game of Thrones' fan.  John Snow should be the next king and if he isn't, I will be in contact with the writers.

Greetings,

It's fall!  We hope you find time for crisp morning walks and a trip to a local cider mill.

In addition to partaking in cider and donut gatherings, our Court staff completed their annual rituals and routines to prepare for the new fiscal year.  We give a special thanks to those who worked extra hours to wrap up last minute details of the outgoing fiscal year.  And we look forward to the regular calendar of fall activities such as our Veteran's Treatment Court's participation in the annual Veteran's Stand Down, the Friend of the Court's semi-annual child support help event, and the Juvenile Court's Adoption Day.

In addition to our calendared events, we had unexpected retirement celebrations in September: Stephen Malyn, Girard Stempin, Richard Stempin, John Breen, and Deborah Price. We thank them for their many years of commitment and service and wish them well.  And, we are preparing for the year-end retirements of Hon. Richard B. Halloran, Hon. Virgil C. Smith, and Hon. Chief Judge Robert J. Colombo, Jr.  These judges are being honored by various organizations and we will be sharing their career highlights in future newsletters.

So grab a sweater, enjoy the newsletter.   Happy Fall!

Hundreds Receive Free
Legal Help for
Child Support Issues

The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic sponsored a free child support help program on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Ave., in the Friends Auditorium from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.  This is a semi-annual event and has been a tradition at the Detroit Public Library since 2011.

The Wayne County Friend of the Court hosts this event so participants are able to meet individually with family law attorneys on a pro bono basis.  These volunteer attorneys assist in helping attendees complete motion packets, process State Discharge of Arrears Forms, and provide legal direction when needed on child support, parenting time, and custody issues.  Child support professionals were also on site to answer general family support questions.

Multiple community partners came out to sponsor information tables such as Wayne County Jury Services, Veteran Services, The Children's Center, Self-Help Legal Aid Navigation, Wayne County Mediation and Dispute Resolution Services, Young Father's Standing United, Lakeshore Legal Aid, and Head Start Family and Children's Services.

Many thanks to all the volunteers and supporters of this free legal help program!
