b'Status Quo ScenarioThe Strategic Planning Committee described the following scenario if the future plays out as things are going currently. The future for the Court is not favorable unless the Court tackles difficult issues and commits to making improvements in needed areas (e.g., as indicated in the results of the Survey Report).1.The Court will not be accessible to all.Court procedures will be difficult to understand and the court will not be user-friendly.It will be difficult to navigate.2.Backlogs will be the norm; justice will be delayed. Children, families, and others will be irreparably harmed.3.The public/court users will lack trust in the system; people will not feel heard. 4.The Court will receive negative media coverage further contributing to a loss of trust and confidence.5.The environment will be stagnant; innovation and creativity will be lacking. The Court will not be able to keep up with changes due to a lack of funding; it will fall further and further behind.6.Relationships with stakeholders and partners will break down.7.Low morale will permeate the Court; the morale of judicial officers and employees will suffer. 8.Staff turnover will remain high; staff will leave in large numbers because of the heavy workload and declining work environment. Vacancy rates will also remain high because it is difficult to recruit / hire talent due in part to low / non-competitive pay and benefits.9.The Courts reputation as a leading court will decline. 10. The continued use of Zoom for court appearances will continue to contribute to the loss of decorum / professional etiquette in the courtroom, unless expectations are clear and higher standards are upheld. 11. The Courts effort to embrace and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices will begin to regress without intentional efforts going forward. 12. In sum, the Court will struggle to achieve its mission of: providing equal justice for all.The Court will not be achieving its vision of achieving excellence.20232027 Strategic PlanThird Judicial Circuit Court 21'
